U-2 Incident
|
U.S. spy plane U-2 was shot down by USSR. Nikita Khrushche
requested U.S. to apologize but Eisenhower rejected.

Vietnam
War (1961-1975)

Viet Cong (越共) started
a rebellion in South Vietnam in 1959. U.S. supported South Vietnam but lost
in 1975. Vietnam was reunited under communist rule.

Crisis

East Germany built a Berlin Wall between the West and East
Germany.

Cuban Missile Crisis
|
U.S.
requested USSR to withdraw the Soviet missiles in Cuban and ordered national
mobilization. Finally USSR made concession.

Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was signed to prevent spread of

USSR to limit nuclear weapons.

Most of the Eastern Europe countries set up non-communist
government for freedom such as Poland, Hungary, East Germany, Czech, Bulgaria,
Romania, and Albania.

Gorbachev
stepped down and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was created. Cold
War was over because of dissolution of USSR.
